Gata cu transportul in comun! Gata cu asteptatul in statie! Scuterul!

EN: The biggest problem for me when I go on a trip is TIME. I always leave home with a long list of attractions in my mind that I want to visit, and usually I only manage to see half of them due to the lack of time. One day I was sitting with Alex and wondering what we could do in order to gain more time and we realised that, actually, we were wasting most of it going from one place to another instead of doing other, more interesting things. The walk from our accommodation to the bus/metro station, waiting at the station, the seemingly endless minutes spent in public transport and the walk from the station to the monument we wanted to visit took us at least 40 minutes a day just for a single trip. If we take into account the travelling from one attraction to another... At the end of the day we realised we were spending most of the time trying to run from one place to another to see as many attractions as possible. Therefore, we found a solution! No more public transportation! No more waiting at the station! No more crowd and pickpockets on the subway! Let's try something new! The scooter!

EN: It didn't take long for us to have this idea, since at that moment Alex had been wanting for a long time to buy a scooter and he was already taking driving lessons to get his AM license (for scooters who can reach a maximum of 45 km/h). We first tried the scooter as a means of transport in the Netherlands. What better place to start than the in the country of bicycles? We googled the nearest place to rent a scooter and we found one in the Red Light District, not far from Amsterdam Centraal, the city's central station. After we passed some windows from the Red Light District with middle-aged women waiting for their clients (these were the only ones open in the middle of the day, the others were covered by a curtain, waiting to open once night falls) we found the Scooter Rental store. We went in and asked if we could rent scooters without having a driver's license, and the shopkeeper agreed, showing us a white scooter that could reach a maximum speed of 25 km/h. We were only allowed to use it on the bicycle lane, but travelling by bicycle or scooter is much more common in Amsterdam than driving a car. I was really surprised by the small number of cars; I could barely see one once every 1-2 minutes in the neighborhood where we stayed. However, bicycles were everywhere, and if you dared to walk on their designated path there was a considerable chance they could run you over.

EN: Travelling by scooter was the best choice because it helped us save a lot of time. Besides the fact that we got from one attraction to the other in 5-10 minutes, it wasn't even dangerous to travel this way because we had our own lane, we did not interact with the cars and we could only reach a maximum of 25 km/h. The most beautiful aspect was definitely the fact that we could admire and explore the city at the same time, contrary to the subway, which only takes you underground where you see a dark, sad tunnel.

EN: In our next trip, the one to Berlin, we discovered something even more inventive: COUP! An e-scooter sharing service which offers clients electric scooters from the Gogoro brand; they could be booked and activated via the Coup application. We simply had to open the app and we were shown a map with all the scooters in the area. We would pick one, book it and we had a maximum of 15 minutes at our disposal to get to the location. After finding it we would start it via Bluetooth, also with the app, and after we reached our destination we would leave it anywhere, stop the engine with the app and the next client could take it from there. The first 30 minutes cost 3 euros and the next 10 minutes cost 1 euro, but it only took us 5-10 minutes to get from one place to another, so we paid 3 euros per ride every time. And the rides weren’t so many since most of the attractions were close from each other.

A stat macar 10 minute sa imi explice cum functioneaza fiecare piesa.

EN: Obviously, electric scooters function on an electric engine fueled by a battery, so in order for it to work, you simply had to charge it at an ordinary socket, no gas and no oil change. The biggest advantage of electric motors is instant coupling. For instance, when you want to get moving at the red light, you will be the first to leave – even before the cars - because you have all the power of the engine from the first second. At the Science Center NEMO in Amsterdam, Alex found all the components of an electric scooter, nicely exhibited behind a glass window. He was so excited! He spent at least 10 minutes explaining me how each piece works.

EN: Therefore, travelling by scooter in big cities is definitely much faster than any means of public transportation, especially if there are dedicated lanes, without having to squeeze in between the cars. If you can save some time why not do it?
